We've all gone past the love-hate relationship. At Cantina Angrydobo, it's always been a love-eat relationship...

Value and variety come into play in a comforting array of Filipino classics served in a complete "Bento" set at Cantina Angrydobo along Taft Avenue in Manila. Located tight across De La Salle University, Cantina Angrydobo's renditions of popular local staples also brings a nostalgic vibe that warms the palate. Ready for a love-eat relationship? Then come on in here at Cantina Angrydobo...

Much has changed along Taft Avenue since my college days, but I fondly recall countless tasty memories and eager to try the new newest dining options. One of them has to be Cantina Angrydobo with its playful take on traditional local dishes. Cantina Angrydobo takes its repertoire of familiar flavors up a notch with its unique value proposition, creating your own Bento Plate from a wide selection of tempting choices on the counter.

Cantina Angrydobo's creative format offers infinite possibilities for a sumptuous meal with its playlist of all-time Filipino faves behind the glass counter recreating the familiar "turo-turo" set-up with a modern and updated tweak.

Creating your own Bento Plate at Cantina Angrydobo is easy, simply choose your protein, then your carbs (rice or noods) and finally your side from the glass counter. Each Bento Plate starts at only P 295 for a satisfying meal without busting your wallet. The Bento Plate comes with Soup of the Day, a condiment for the protein and even dessert. If you prefer a simpler option, go for the Basic Plate (P 195) with your choice of protein and steamed white rice.

Inside Cantina Angrydobo, the streamlined flow of ordering and paying becomes a smooth and seamlessly efficient process. Choosing the components for your Bento Plate however may be just a bit challenging with the impressive spread of tempting dishes. But no worries, you have the option to add dishes a la carte to your Bento Plate

Frequented mostly by students, Cantina Angrydobo exudes a casual and relaxed vibe. On the walls and ceiling, you'll find the establishment's quirky and youthful personality setting the mood for a fun dining experience. You'll also find the story of how the celebrity couple behind Cantina Angrydobo began their culinary journey with a pot of homemade adobo that ignited the idea and the dream of owning a restaurant on the wall. Cantina Angrydobo is that dream fulfilled. And you guessed right, Cantina Angrydobo is by celebrity now chef Judy Ann Agoncillo

Let's get this love-eat relationship going...

That day, comforting dishes like Kaldereta, EscabecheAdobong PutiAdobong Pusit and more were presented...

...along with sides like Guinataang Kalabasaat Sitaw, Ukoy and Lumpiang Shangai. For the carbs, Garlic Rice, Bagoong Rice and Canton Noodles were placed behind the glass counter. Just point your picks and your Bento Plate will be assembled in minutes.

My first pick is the BBQ Liempo paired with Bagoong Rice and Guinataang Kalabasa at Sitaw as the side. The Bento Plate comes with a bowl of Sinampalukan Manok broth with a condiment of Soy Chili dip for the grilled pork. And as mentioned earlier, you even get Ice Candy for dessert. A refreshing Tamarind Iced Tea completed my order.

The slabs of grilled pork belly with its sweet and salty bbq glaze and subtle smoky hints from the grill brings bold savory notes to the palate, perfectly complemented by a fresh squeeze of calamansi and soy chili dip bringing out even more flavors. The Bagoong Rice completes the medley of flavors.

The side of Guinataang Kalabasa at Sitaw added its play on creamy richness and sweetness, while the pickled vegetables or atsara and the broth of Sinampalukan Manok rounds out a comforting meal.

The Beef Pares with Garlic Rice, Chili Sauce and Lumpiang Shanghai with ketchup is another sumptuous combo at Cantina Angrydobo...

...for a hearty meal without busting your budget. From seafood to pork, beef and chicken along with a variety of sides, Cantina Angrydobo offers countless possibilities for the perfect meal. The menu is rotated every week, so there's always something new to try at Cantina Angrydobo

The common thread among all the dishes at Cantina Angrydobo is the familiar and uncluttered taste of home served on a tray. Everyone knows the sauce of a good Pares plays an equal role with the tender beef, and Cantina Angrydobo nails it with their own rendition. Thick, rich and full of flavor, a spoonful of rice with the sauce is a meal in itself. The melt in your beef tendon and tender chunks of beef topped with crisp garlic bits and fresh spring onions brings even more flavors.

The crisp Lumpiang Shanghai offers a delectable change of pace with its contrasting texture and flavor to complement the meal. Simple yet hearty and satisfying, the fare at Cantina Angrydobo isn't complicated. It's honest and sincere without the unnecessary frills. And it's just what you need for a satisfying meal.

If you still have room for some serious desserts, the Super Scramble (P 145) iced creations should do the trick. It's halo-halo, bingsu and scramble all in one for that picture-perfect sweet ending at Cantina Angrydobo

The Ube Halo-Halo Super Scramble highlighted by the soft ube and a stellar cast of tasty components is a feast for both the eyes and palate.

The luscious ube binds everything together in this simple yet decadent dessert. The presentation is also impressive, with a wooden tray to hold the iced creation.

Other Super Scramble variants include the Bilo-Bilo Halo-Halo Super Scramble (P 145), Classic Scramble (P 95) and Chocolate Scramble (P 95).

Cantina Angrydobo had one more flavorful surprise...

The aptly named Yin Yang by Cantina Angrydobo is a creative spin on the classic and traditional champorado or sweet porridge with a duo of flavors in one tub. That's right. Imagine White and Dark Chocolate Champorado. Or Ube Mais Champorado. Cantina Angrydobo offers a whole line of the local delicacy in an impressive variety of diverse flavor combos. This one's high up on my list alongside the Bento Plates and Super Scramble at Cantina Angrydobo. After all, is there anything more comforting than a bowl of homestyle champorado

And this is just what you need for those late night cravings at home. Enjoy a spoonful with both the ube and mais champorado in one bite and rediscover comforting flavors reinterpreted in the creative and playfully inventive style of Cantina Angrydobo

Cantina Angrydobo is just one of many dining options along Taft Avenue. Sure, you may think it's just an upscaled and tweaked turo-turo and that's fine. It's the purpose and intent of the concept. But what really sets Cantina Angrydobo apart from the other options in the area is its genuine love for homestyle, honest and real comforting flavors. There's a whole lotta love at Cantina Angrydobo, and this is reflected in each of the dishes served behind the glass counter.

Create your own Bento Plate or keep it simple with the Basic Plate, it's always your call at Cantina Angrydobo. Value and variety are redefined in a refreshed and modern setting while staying true to the comforting flavors we love at Cantina Angrydobo
