The elegant Chinese art deco design theme of Jasmine exudes a refined yet comforting warmth setting the mood and tone for yet another memorable dining experience at New World Makati Hotel. The vibrant splashes of color are perfectly tempered by the dark wood tones of the elegant space for a proper stage to showcase new Executive Chef Brandon Ng's culinary creations. 


As you settle down in your seat, open your palate with the Signature Cocktails selection of Jasmine like the Xiang Mao Drop blended with rum, lemongrass, fresh mint, lime juice and tie guan yin tea syrup for that sharp burst of fresh flavors balanced by the deep notes of the rum.


The Jasmine Bloom with Christian Drouin Gin, Mancino Bianco Vermouth, jasmine tea, lime juice and honey topped with egg white foam is another tempting libation with its elegantly smooth and light finish. 


With over 28 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Executive Chef Brandon Ng brings a refreshed perspective to the various culinary offerings of New World Makati Hotel. A multi-awarded chef with stints in several prestigious 5-star hotel properties around the world, the Malaysian born Brandon Ng is committed to maintaining the tradition of excellence at Jasmine while incorporating some of his creative renditions on the menu. 


The feast at Jasmine begins with the hearty and comforting Seafood Hot & Sour Soup warming the palate with its tart and soothing heat followed by the subtle sweetness from the medley of succulent seafood. It's the perfect start to another grand feast at Jasmine


The Signature Roast Duck remains one of Jasmine's popular dishes with juicy meat capped by a delicately crisp layer of skin for a delectable play on textural contrast and savory richness with each tender bite. It's dishes like this that keep customers coming back to Jasmine for its array of comfortingly familiar flavors. 


Executive Chef Brandon Ng then spices up the menu with his Poached Chicken with Sichuan Chili Vinaigrette, a sumptuous dish with tender chicken slathered with a rich chili-based sauce. The subtle notes of the chicken becomes Chef Brandon's flavorful base made richer and more intense with the deep concentrated notes of the Sichuan chilies. The Sichuan chili vinaigrette has a pronounced nutty sweetness followed by just a whisper of gentle heat for that balanced finish. The complex layers of flavors in this one dish offers an insightful glimpse at Chef Brandon's approach to flavors. And this dish is a good sign of even better things yet to come. 


Then, there's the Crispy Pork Belly. The juicy slab of pork with its layer of crisp crackling is one more signature dish from Jasmine's repertoire of bestsellers. Tender and juicy with the perfect light crunch, a dab of hot mustard completes the flavors for this all-time classic at Jasmine. And these first three dishes served are just the starters...


Next, Chef Brandon teases the eyes with his intricate dim sum creations led by the Scallops, Prawns, Black Caviar Dumpling. The scallops and prawns brings layers of fresh briny sweetness while the black caviar adds that flavorful punch for the perfect finish. The flavors are rich yet elegantly nuanced that will have you going for another piece. 


The Assorted Mushrooms, Truffle Dumpling offers a whole new and unique play on flavors with the deep earthy hints from the various mushrooms highlighted by the distinct notes of truffle for another elegant dim sum rendition by Chef Brandon. It's also a light all-vegetable dim sum option at Jasmine with fresh and bold flavors. 


The Crabmeat and Spinach Dumpling completes the savory trifecta of intricate dim sum creations by Chef Brandon with lumps of succulent crabmeat and fresh spinach combining for rich flavors. The combination of ingredients and the resulting flavors of the various dim sum served reflects the vast culinary experience of Chef Brandon and diners can now have a taste at Jasmine


But Chef Brandon has one more tasty surprise from his bag of dim sum tricks. The Deep Fried Bean Curd Roll with Oyster Sauce with its savory sweetness concludes the opening act of Chef Brandon's culinary performance. Chef Brandon's tasty starter and lavish dim sum offerings are just a preview of what diners can expect with the new Executive Chef at the helm of New World Makati Hotel like his Deep Fried Soft Shell Crabs, Buttered Oat Flakes, Fried Stuffed Lotus Cake Sandwich and Pork & Shrimp Paste


For the mains, Chef Brandon served his Wok-Fried Marinated Beef Short Ribs with slabs of tender beef slathered in a thick mildly sweet sauce. The fork-tender beef short ribs are the highlight of the savory dish with the richness of the sauce completing the flavors. It's a dish with bold and unrestrained notes, pairing well with a bowl of Chef Brandon's specialty fried rice (more on this below on the post). 


The Fried Shrimps, Crispy Chili Garlic, "Bi Feng Tang"Style by Chef Brandon plays on fresh flavors and contrasting textures, placing this dish high up on my list of personal picks from the new dishes at Jasmine. The succulent sweetness of the shrimps comes through after a crunchy bite followed by nutty hints from the garlic and a gentle heat from the chilies. Chef Brandon's weave of complex flavors brings a renewed surge of vibrant flavors to Jasmine while staying true to Chinese culinary traditions. 


The Deep Fried Pomfret, Garlic Chili"Yu Xiang"Sauce offers a refined sweetness from the whole local pampano complemented by the pronounced sharpness of the special sauce without overwhelming the fish. Delicately balanced, the sweetness of the fish lingers long on the palate as it slowly melts releasing even more flavors punctuated by the upfront notes of the sauce. Each contrasting note is masterfully orchestrated by Chef Brandon in a seamless weave for all his lavish dishes at Jasmine


The Wok Fried Lotus Roots, Black Fungus, Assorted Vegetables cleanses the palate with its refreshingly clean and pure flavors, a refreshing change of pace from the savory dishes served earlier at Jasmine. The flavors are simple yet rich and uncomplicated that's easy on the palate. 


Did you say extra rice? Chef Brandon obliges with one of his specialties.
