The minute you land at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, you automatically get hungry...
At KLIA 2, there are well over 160 retail and food outlets offering a wide array of both international and local dining options. Getting hungry at KLIA2 is the perfect way to get acquainted with Kuala Lumpur, so let's eat...
Officially opened in May, 2014, KLIA 2 was designed to be Malaysia's next generation international airport hub to meet the emerging low cost travel sector capable of servicing 45 million passengers a year in total comfort. The expansive layout allows for seamless connectivity for both local and international low-cost and full-service carriers. Now that's serious volume, and KLIA 2 is geared up for it.
Don't be surprised to see red, a whole lot of red. KLIA 2 is, after all, the main hub of AirAsia, the region's dominant carrier in its class. Leading the category with continuous innovation to enhance the onboard experience, AirAsia injects a flavorful upgrade to inflight meals with the launch of their new Santan-inspired meals (for more on AirAsia's Santan Food Festival, see my earlier post, Celebrating Asian Flavors with AirAsia's Santan Food Festival). With AirAsia, your culinary journey of local and regional flavors begin onboard with their inflight meals...
...drawing inspiration from the rich culinary diversity and heritage of the region. A hot and flavorful meal at a cruising altitude of 30,000 feet, and it just doesn't get better than that (see my previous post for more on AirAsia's new and tasty Santan Inflight Meals here at Celebrating Asian Flavors with AirAsia's Santan Food Festival).
And once you touchdown at KL, get ready to discover even more tasty bites on-ground at KLIA 2. Measuring an impressive 257,000 square meters and 32,000 square meters for retail space with 60 gates, 8 remote stands, 80 aerobridges, and an elegant skybridge, KLIA 2 is an experience itself.
And you can feast your eyes with a sumptuous array of dining options...
...from international chains to authentic local flavors. Finding something you will enjoy isn't a problem, the real challenge is choosing one spot from so many dining options. But it's also part of the fun when traveling, so just go with the flow.
The UK-based Nando's was something new, with its signature Peri-Peri Chicken and Portuguese cuisine. Famous for their fresh Malaysian chicken marinated for 24 hours in their proprietary Peri-Peri sauce, why not give it a try, right? Get ready for some serious heat with the hot African Bird's Eye Chili...
At Nando's, go on the bone for richer flavors, with the 1/4 Peri-Peri Chicken (RM 17.90 + 1 Regular Side/RM 20.80 + 2 Regular Sides or 1 Fino Side) or the 1/2 Peri-Peri Chicken (RM 27.50 + 1 Regular Side/RM 30.50 + 2 Regular Sides or 1 Fino Side), prepared with your desired level of heat. Choose from Plain...ish, the mildest Peri-Peri with no added spice, Lemon & Herb, with just a hint of heat capped by lemon and herbs, the Mango and Lime, sweet and tangy with just the right level of heat, Mild, this one hits the spot without burning your palate, Hot and Extra Hot for the adventurous. The chicken is tender and juicy, with smoky notes capped by the subtle spice for a satisfying chicken meal. Sides include Spicy Rice, Mediterranean Rice, Coleslaw, Peri-Peri Chips, Peri-Peri Wedges, Corn-on-the-Cob, Chargrilled Vegetables, and Garlic Bread. Nando's Fino Sides include Algarve Side Salad, Caesar Salad, Red Skinned Mashed Potato, Sweet Potato Chips, and Spinach.
Not to be missed is Nando's Chicken Livers and Portuguese Roll (RM 9.60), with melt-in-your-mouth chicken liver in a rich and nutty sauce with garlic, perfect with the side of Portuguese bread.
When in KLIA 2, make a stop at Old Town White Coffee for a freshly brewed cup of coffee and traditional Malaysian dishes. With its proprietary blend using three types of premium coffee beans, each soothing sip delivers deep, rounded and bold notes. Pair it with their signature Old Town Prawn Meehon Mee (RM 12.90), a hearty and comforting bowl of noodles with plump prawns, vegetables, and spices...
...or one of their many Rice Meals, and you've got a taste of Malaysia at KLIA 2. Onboard AirAsia down to KLIA 2, the diverse flavors of Malaysia is one of many reasons why it is a popular destination. Like they say, one of the best ways to acquaint yourself with any city is to taste and experience the local cuisine. And KL is tasting pretty good...
