A Tipple at The Lounge: Oktober Special Cocktails at Hyatt City of Dreams

It's October, that time of year when the centuries-old Bavarian tradition brings everyone together for round after round of traditional brews...

Drawing inspiration from the Bavarian tradition, The Lounge at Hyatt City of Dreams Manila offers its own distinct spin on Oktoberfest with its range of new cocktails blended with Furst Bismark Grain Spirit. Time to say Prost with a cocktail glass instead of a mug for a refreshing change...

Located adjacent to the lobby, The Lounge is Hyatt City of Dreams Manila's cozy bar offering some of the finest handcrafted cocktails this side of the metro. The Lounge's Danessa, along with master mixologist, Nick (L), prepared their new Oktober Special Cocktails, and it's Oktoberfest at The Lounge...in a Hyatt world.

The new Oktoberfest-inspired cocktails use Furst Bismark Grain Spirit as the base liquor, a crystal clear brandy made from rye, wheat, barley and roast-dried malt delivering sweet and rounded notes. It's a traditional German grain spirit distilled by the family of one of Germany's iconic historical figures, Prince Otto von Bismark....

...also known as the "Iron Chancellor," adding a distinctly teutonic vibe to the new cocktails.  Take the Korn Sunrise (P 330, L), a refreshing twist on the classic Tequila Sunrise with Furst Bismark Grain Spirit instead of tequila and fresh orange juice, lemon juice, and grenadine. The sharp yet clean notes and pronounced sweetness of Furst Bismark Grain Spirit gives this cocktail a smooth finish, deceptively light and easy but you get a festive buzz in no time. The Korn Kir (P 330, Middle) is another smooth blend with Creme de Cassis, cranberry juice, and soda water. It's a take on the traditional aperitif, with blackcurrant liqueur and white wine. The tartness of the cranberry juice tempers the sweetness of the Furst Bismark Grain Spirit, with the soda water adding a light effervescent fizz for a refreshing cocktail. The sweet and mildly minty notes of the Furst Bismark Grain Spirit add a unique layer of flavor to the cocktail, making it refreshingly different.

The Frittis (P 330) is a blend of Furst Bismark Grain Spirit, Stolichnaya Vodka, fresh pineapple juice, and lemon juice, combining for a light, sweet and mildly sour cocktail that's light and refreshing, with the potent one-two punch of Furst Bismark Grain Spirit and Stolichnaya Vodka that can make you sing out Roll Out The Barrel after a third or fourth round.

The Kornpirinha (P 330), as the name suggests, is The Lounge's Oktoberfest version of the Brazilian cocktail replacing cachaca, a sugarcane liquor, with Furst Bismark Grain Spirit, with brown sugar and lime wedges muddled and gently mashed and topped off with the grain spirit. The natural sweetness of the grain spirit is enhanced by the brown sugar, giving it depth, tempered by the sour lime. Now this one's a winner, with just the right flavorful punch, and that burn and bite at the back of your mouth, capped by a smooth and elegant finish. And I can have this all night...

Other Furst Bismark Grain Spirit-based Oktober Special Cocktails by The Lounge include the Jumping Jack (P 330), with fresh orange juice, lemon juice, and strawberry syrup, a festive and fruity cocktail. You can also enjoy Furst Bismark Grain Spirit neat and chilled by the glass (P 95), or have an Oktoberfest party with a bottle (P 1,888). But if you're planning an Oktoberfest-inspired tipple, better hurry. The new Oktober Special Cocktails at The Lounge will be available until the end of the month only, so see you at The Lounge. In the meantime, I'm going for another Kornpirinha...

The Lounge is located at the Ground Level to the right of the Lobby, Hyatt City of Dreams Manila, Asean Avenue corner Roxas Boulevard, Entertainment City, Paranaque City or call (+632) 691-1234 for inquiries and more information.
